Daily Lectionary:

Morning: Psalm 146:1-10
Genesis 45:1-15
1 = Corinthians 7:32-40
Mark 6:1-13
Evening: Psalm=20 91:1-16

Morning: Psalm 146:1-10

1Praise the LORD!

Praise the LORD, O my soul!

2I will praise the LORD = as long=20 as I live;

I will sing praises to my God all my life = long.

3Do not put your trust = in=20 princes,

in mortals, in whom there is no help.

4When their breath = departs, they=20 return to the earth;

on that very day their plans perish.

5Happy are those whose = help is=20 the God of Jacob,

whose hope is in the LORD their God,

6who made heaven and = earth,

the sea, and all that is in them;

who keeps faith forever;

7who executes = justice for=20 the oppressed;

who gives food to the hungry.

The LORD sets the prisoners free;

8the LORD opens = the eyes of=20 the blind.

The LORD lifts up those who are bowed down;

the LORD loves the righteous.

9The LORD watches over = the=20 strangers;

he upholds the orphan and the widow,

but the way of the wicked he brings to = ruin.

10The LORD will reign = forever,=20

your God, O Zion, for all generations.

Praise the LORD!

Genesis 45:1-15

1Then Joseph could no = longer=20 control himself before all those who stood by him, and he cried = out, "Send=20 everyone away from me." So no one stayed with him when Joseph made = himself=20 known to his brothers. 2And he wept so = loudly=20 that the Egyptians heard it, and the household of Pharaoh heard = it.=20 3Joseph said to his brothers, "I am = Joseph. Is=20 my father still alive?" But his brothers could not answer him, so = dismayed=20 were they at his presence.

4Then Joseph said to = his=20 brothers, "Come closer to me." And they came closer. He said, "I = am your=20 brother, Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt. = 5And=20 now do not be distressed, or angry with yourselves, because you = sold me=20 here; for God sent me before you to preserve life.=20 6For the famine has been in the land = these two=20 years; and there are five more years in which there will be = neither=20 plowing nor harvest. 7God sent me before = you to=20 preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you = many=20 survivors. 8So it was not you who sent = me here,=20 but God; he has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his = house and=20 ruler over all the land of Egypt. 9Hurry = and go=20 up to my father and say to him, 'Thus says your son Joseph, God = has made=20 me lord of all Egypt; come down to me, do not delay.=20 10You shall settle in the land of = Goshen, and=20 you shall be near me, you and your children and your children's = children,=20 as well as your flocks, your herds, and all that you have.=20 11I will provide for you there=97since = there are=20 five more years of famine to come=97so that you and your = household, and all=20 that you have, will not come to poverty.' = 12And=20 now your eyes and the eyes of my brother Benjamin see that it is = my own=20 mouth that speaks to you. 13You must = tell my=20 father how greatly I am honored in Egypt, and all that you have = seen.=20 Hurry and bring my father down here." = 14Then he=20 fell upon his brother Benjamin's neck and wept, while Benjamin = wept upon=20 his neck. 15And he kissed all his = brothers and=20 wept upon them; and after that his brothers talked with him.

1 Corinthians 7:32-40

32I want you to be = free from=20 anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the affairs of the = Lord, how=20 to please the Lord; 33but the married = man is=20 anxious about the affairs of the world, how to please his wife,=20 34and his interests are divided. And the = unmarried woman and the virgin are anxious about the affairs of = the Lord,=20 so that they may be holy in body and spirit; but the married woman = is=20 anxious about the affairs of the world, how to please her husband. = 35I say this for your own benefit, not = to put=20 any restraint upon you, but to promote good order and unhindered = devotion=20 to the Lord.

36If anyone thinks = that he is=20 not behaving properly toward his fiancee, if his passions are = strong, and=20 so it has to be, let him marry as he wishes; it is no sin. Let = them marry.=20 37But if someone stands firm in his = resolve,=20 being under no necessity but having his own desire under control, = and has=20 determined in his own mind to keep her as his fiancee, he will do = well.=20 38So then, he who marries his fiancee = does well;=20 and he who refrains from marriage will do better.

39A wife is bound as = long as her=20 husband lives. But if the husband dies, she is free to marry = anyone she=20 wishes, only in the Lord. 40But in my = judgment=20 she is more blessed if she remains as she is. And I think that I = too have=20 the Spirit of God.

Mark 6:1-13

1He left that place = and came to=20 his hometown, and his disciples followed him.=20 2On the sabbath he began to teach in the = synagogue, and many who heard him were astounded. They said, = "Where did=20 this man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been given to = him?=20 What deeds of power are being done by his hands!=20 3Is not this the carpenter, the son of = Mary and=20 brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his = sisters=20 here with us?" And they took offense at him.=20 4Then Jesus said to them, "Prophets are = not=20 without honor, except in their hometown, and among their own kin, = and in=20 their own house." 5And he could do no = deed of=20 power there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people = and cured=20 them. 6And he was amazed at their = unbelief.

Then he went about among the villages teaching.=20 7He called the twelve and began to send = them out=20 two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits.=20 8He ordered them to take nothing for = their=20 journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; = 9but to wear sandals and not to put on = two=20 tunics. 10He said to them, "Wherever you = enter a=20 house, stay there until you leave the place.=20 11If any place will not welcome you and = they=20 refuse to hear you, as you leave, shake off the dust that is on = your feet=20 as a testimony against them." 12So they = went out=20 and proclaimed that all should repent. = 13They=20 cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick and = cured=20 them.

Evening: Psalm 91:1-16

1You who live in the = shelter of=20 the Most High,

who abide in the shadow of the = Almighty,

2will say to the LORD, = "My refuge=20 and my fortress;

my God, in whom I trust."

3For he will deliver = you from the=20 snare of the fowler

and from the deadly pestilence;

4he will cover you with = his=20 pinions,

and under his wings you will find = refuge;

his faithfulness is a shield and = buckler.

5You will not fear the = terror of=20 the night,

or the arrow that flies by day,

6or the pestilence that = stalks in=20 darkness,

or the destruction that wastes at = noonday.

7A thousand may fall at = your=20 side,

ten thousand at your right hand,

but it will not come near you.

8You will only look = with your=20 eyes

and see the punishment of the wicked.

9Because you have made = the LORD=20 your refuge,

the Most High your dwelling place,

10no evil shall befall = you,

no scourge come near your tent.

11For he will command = his angels=20 concerning you

to guard you in all your ways.

12On their hands they = will bear=20 you up,

so that you will not dash your foot against = a=20 stone.

13You will tread on the = lion and=20 the adder,

the young lion and the serpent you will = trample under=20 foot.

14Those who love me, I = will=20 deliver;

I will protect those who know my name.

15When they call to me, = I will=20 answer them;

I will be with them in trouble,

I will rescue them and honor them.

16With long life I will = satisfy=20 them,

and show them my salvation.
